Technical Training
The Sandvik Coromant technical training has a program for everyone–from new employees unfamiliar with manufacturing to seasoned engineers. Based on our strong expertise and deep resource pool, these courses provide application knowledge and fundamental theoretical know-how in key areas including turning, milling, drilling, boring and tool holding. Our Certified Training Specialists provide the tools to help realize cost savings and boost employee confidence and job satisfaction.
Every year, more than 30,000 customers attend our technical training courses, often located at one of our many Productivity Centers worldwide. On-site, online or customized training is also available, in local languages.
Participants generally fall into one of four main training levels:

[-+] Metal Cutting Technology (MCT) Lite
This one-day, foundation-level course is designed for those with little to no metal-cutting experience (typically less than two years), including new Sandvik Coromant employees, distributors, customers and even high school and university students. It covers modern metal-cutting information, including definitions, is currently available at Productivity Centers or in the field, and is coming soon online.
Participants receive a comprehensive training package that includes a 360-page training handbook and CD, training course brochure and notepad and pen.
[+-] MCT: Level 1
Like MCT Lite, this training covers the basics of metal cutting via a comprehensive training package. It spans about two to three days and caters to employees, distributors and students with one to five years of experience in metalworking.
Covering theory, definitions, tooling, troubleshooting and other fundamentals, MCT Level 1 employs knowledge testing designed to systematically measure participant competence and provide course-completion certification.
[+-] Advanced MCT: Level 2
Level 2 of technical training teaches students to apply the information they learned in Lite and Level 1 courses. This level is geared toward students (both Sandvik employees and distributors and customers) that have between three to five years of experience in the industry or who have completed Level 1.
Students follow the Sandvik Coromant Technical Guide and Application Guides to go further in depth into various aspects of the metal-cutting process. We recently revamped our Technical Guide, which outlines important product- and application-specific information on choosing the right tools; employing the correct machining methods; tooling maintenance, productivity and optimization; troubleshooting; and much more.
This course level typically lasts two to three days.
[+-] Specific Application and Solutions: Level 3
The final level of training is Level 3, designed for our senior sales representatives and distributors, and customers with a higher level of technical expertise (usually more than five years). Level 3 is dedicated to specific, advanced technical areas such as advanced gear milling, composites and spindle integrations.
Application Guides serve as reference material, and one- to four-day courses cover these specific topics in greater depth.
