Hello and welcome to the Sandvik Coromant web cast for CoroMill 176.

CoroMill 176 is an innovative full form indexable-insert cutter for productive gear milling. This cost-efficient hobbing solution can reduce cutting time by 50% and more than double tool life compared to traditional high-speed steel hobs. Additionally, the new cutter delivers high cutting speeds, easy tool indexing and handling, and no additional regrinding or recoating costs.

Typical components are large gear wheels for heavy vehicles, industrial transmissions and wind power. The hob meets Class B requirements and can be used in roughing, semi-finishing, and finishing applications, and on hobbing, multi-task, and five-axis machines.

The high number of effective teeth reduces machining time per gear wheel. CoroMill 176 is currently designed for gears in the module range 4-8, extending to the complete the module range 3-10 by early 2013. Our iLock interface technology between the body and insert ensures precision and stability, and repeatability when inserts are indexed, delivering improved tool life and high tolerances. The wedge-clamped insert design allows for quick, secure and easy indexing.

A user-friendly insert-changing procedure helps reduce downtime and ensure top performance and repeatability. First, unscrew the wedge screw and remove the insert. Next, remove all wedges, clean the cutter thoroughly, and inspect insert seats, wedges and screws. Finally, lubricate the screw, remount wedge and insert, and visually inspect to ensure proper alignment.

In this test case against an HSS tool, we not only ran the CoroMill 176 at higher cutting data, we reduced production time per component by more than half, and completed 4 times the # of total components in the allocated machining time.

This concludes our web cast for the CoroMill 176. For more information, contact your local Sandvik Coromant representative.
