On June 29, 2012, Sandvik Coromant hosted twenty California metal cutting educators for a three-day comprehensive combination of theory and tooling calculation/selection with hands-on application at the Cypress, CA Productivity Center. The program was open to educators across the entire state. The State of California is one of the largest education systems in the USA with a metal cutting curriculum. It was sponsored by the Fresno County office of Education and was worth 2 credits for ongoing career development requirements for the participants. The seminar was filled to capacity with high school and community college instructors.
The purpose of this Metal Cutting Technology training was to bring awareness of appropriate applications and tooling techniques used in today’s industry. The training was held at the Sandvik Coromant Productivity Center in Cypress, CA in partnership with the Manufacturing and Product Development Sector Advisory of the California Education Department. It was based on Sandvik Coromant’s Training Hand Book, CoroKey, Technical Guide and other materials, such as our CoroGuide, websites, and smartphone apps. The group was tasked with utilizing this material to build individual lesson plans to use in their respective curricula. The plans will be posted to the California Educational Resource website for use by all instructors in the state.
The Cypress, California Productivity Center is a regional center for metal cutting education for customers, educators and partners. Student groups and field trips are welcome.
